Photo Walk FAQs
Photo Walks are free events put on by Nevada City Scenics and sometimes fellow adventurer Erin Thiem of Outside Inn/Inn Town Campground. They are open to the public, no reservations are required.
No, absolutely not! All levels of Photo Walkers are welcome to these events. From hobbyists to pros to folks who just shoot photos on their phones. It's a chance for fellow like-minded people to get together, enjoy the great outdoors at a beautiful location within Nevada County, CA.
Each Photo Walk is a bit different depending on location, but for the most part, we all meet at a specified location (groups range from 15-50 people typically) and we have a pre-mapped out route that is typically easy-to-moderate in hiking abilities. Once introductions are made, a group photo is taken and we all walk the route at our own pace. Photo Walks typically last around 90 minutes to 2 hours.
We have Photo Walks in a variety of locations around Nevada County. Some past photo walks have been at Smith Winery, Malakoff Diggins State Park, downtown Nevada City, Inn Town Campground, Hwy 49 Crossing at the Yuba, Buttermilk Bend Trail on the Yuba, Sugarloaf Mountain, Empire Mine State Park and a variety of local farms.
Yes! Sometimes the best experiences are during inclement weather, for example, one Photo Walk was held in the pouring rain, after the rain briefly cleared, a beautiful rainbow appeared over the Yuba River making for stellar photo opportunities, while another Photo Walk was held during, once again, very rainy wet weather, umbrellas were handy as we all enjoyed a brief stint at the Inn Town Campground and photographing the wet fall leaves and train tracks.
